Instructor Tools

This page covers the instructor surfaces in the Learning Center: the live sessions board, the review surface for learner attempts, the co-host queue for raised hands, and the course builder. It is written for instructors and co-hosts.

Live sessions

The sessions surface at /learn/instructor/sessions is your live board. Each active or recent learning session appears as a card showing the course title, when the day was opened, and the day's current state: teaching, on break, closed, or handed off. When no session is active, the board states "No active sessions."

Use the board to answer three questions at a glance: who is learning now, which course each learner is in, and who may need attention because a day has stalled or been handed off.

Reviewing attempts

The review surface at /learn/instructor/review is where you review learner attempts: the learner's responses, the result, the misconception recorded where the reasoning went wrong, and Professor's feedback, with the work item and the companion material behind it.

Review in this order

  1. Read the learner's response in the learner's own words before you read the result.
  2. Read the recorded misconception and Professor's feedback. Note whether the feedback addressed the misconception the learner actually made.
  3. Look across learners. If several learners reach the same misconception on the same check, record it as a lesson problem and raise it through the escalation path below, rather than treating each case as an individual failure.
  4. Where a learner's record raises a concern about readiness for live-animal work, hold the relevant safety gate until you have reviewed the work yourself.

Safety-gate sign-offs belong to instructors. A safety gate: for example, IPDG-103 before live-animal work, or PDT-201 in the trainer pathway: is signed off only when you are satisfied the learner is ready. The full gate list is in Assessments and Rubric. Never sign off a gate on the basis of completion alone.

The co-host queue

The co-host review panel, opened with the Co-host button in the classroom, holds the intervention queue: every open raised hand, with the learner's course, the reason, the active work item, and the full attempts and context for that request.

Work a request in this order

  1. Review. Read the reason, the item, the attempts, and the conversation with Professor before you join. The context is attached so you do not walk in without it.
  2. Check in. Joining moves the learner's day into the handoff state and steps Professor back, so the learner is not taught by two instructors at once.
  3. Support. Work through the problem with the learner, in the room or in a meeting the learner connects. See Raise Hand and Human Support.
  4. Resolve. Record a resolution that describes the support you provided. Resolving closes the request with a time stamp and returns the learner's day to awaiting the next attempt.

Notice

The co-host panel identifies the records it shows. Always confirm whether you are looking at records for enrolled learners before you act on what you see, and do not treat demonstration records as learner records.

The course builder

Courses in the classroom are companions generated from curriculum sources, not pages written one by one. The course builder takes the generation inputs: the area of study and its source material: together with the companion content, and saves the course so it appears in learners' course lists. The companion reader shows the source and review position for the content, so a learner or instructor can see where the material came from and whether it has been reviewed.

Before a generated course is used with learners

  1. Read the companion content in full.
  2. Check worked examples, checks, and practice items against the source curriculum.
  3. Confirm the safety-related content matches the pathway's safety gates.
  4. Record the review in the course's source and review information.

Escalation

Escalate to the admin team through the Admin LMS Console route when a problem is outside instructor authority: a disputed assessment that you cannot resolve, a pattern of misconceptions that points to a defect in a lesson, a learner record that appears incorrect, or any safety concern involving live-animal work.
